I would like to ask about avoiding opioids in patients with severe asthma. "Barbiturates and narcotics, particularly meperidine, are histamine-releasing drugs that can provoke an attack and thus should be avoided." "Likewise, barbiturates and narcotics are best not used because they also may precipitate an asthma attack." CHAPTER 7 Pulmonary Disease page 115 Little, J., Falace, D., Miller, C.S., Rhodus, N.L. (2018). Dental management of the medically compromised patient. (9th ed.) St. Louis: Elsevier Mosby. So should we also choose to avoid opioids + avoid NSAIDs in patients with severe asthma?

We discussed this in detail and we still wouldn't choose avoid opioids in severe asthma. Avoid is too strong of a work and if you choose it you are basically saying you cannot manage severe pain in patients with severe asthma!
