What Is the NDEB Virtual OSCE?
The Virtual OSCE is the final step in the NDEB Certification Process and is required for dentists seeking NDEB certification, regardless of where they completed their dental training. It is a computer-based examination that assesses the problem-solving and critical decision-making skills expected of beginning dental practitioners in Canada.
Unlike the traditional station-based OSCE, candidates work through standard and case-based questions supported by patient histories, dental charts, photographs and radiographs. The emphasis is not simply on recalling dental knowledge, but on interpreting clinical information and choosing the most appropriate response under exam conditions.
Candidates may be asked to identify the most likely diagnosis, determine the next step in treatment or management, select one or more appropriate responses, or complete a prescription. This requires a consistent approach to reviewing each case, identifying relevant information and making precise, defensible clinical decisions under time pressure.
